Our Mountains

In addition to the mountains of the world, the Western and Eastern Alps, we love spending time in our “local mountains.” These can be explained using three terms:

The Kitzbühel Alps were given the name “Grass Mountains” because of their alpine pastures and meadows that reach right up to the summits. Their gentle mountain shapes provide the ideal setting for extensive, easy hikes and bike tours in summer. In winter, the mountains around the world-famous Hahnenkamm offer the perfect backdrop for ski and snowshoe tours. Thanks to the excellent lift infrastructure, they are also a paradise for off-piste skiers.

On the northern edge of the Alps, the “Stone Mountains” offer a rugged contrast that invites you to go climbing. From the famous climbing dorado of the Wilder Kaiser and the Steinplatte to the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge, these limestone mountains provide the ideal playground for everyone seeking vertical fun on steep faces or via ferratas.

To the south of the Kitzbühel Alps are the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern, known as the “Snow Mountains,” as this part of the main Alpine ridge is called. The most famous of these, the Großglockner and the Großvenediger, can be reached from Kitzbühel as comfortable two-day tours.

Our Region

Kitzbühel Alps Region St. Johann in Tirol (St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf, Kirchdorf, Erpfendorf)
In summer, the north side of the Wilder Kaiser is a highlight for hiking and climbing tours, and on the gentler side, the via ferrata on the Kitzbüheler Horn offers an exciting challenge. In winter, the snowy side of the Wilder Kaiser is a retreat for ski touring with guaranteed moments of happiness.

Kitzbühel Alps Brixental (Brixen, Kirchberg, Westendorf)
The gentle mountain shapes provide the ideal setting for extensive, easy hikes and bike tours in summer. In winter, the mountains around the world-famous Hahnenkamm offer the perfect backdrop for ski and snowshoe tours.

Kitzbühel Alps Pillerseetal (Fieberbrunn, St. Jakob in Haus, Hochfilzen, St. Ulrich am Pillersee, Waidring)
Starting at the Steinplatte, which is one of the top climbing areas in Central Europe, through to the Loferer and Leoganger
Steinberge, these limestone mountains offer the ideal playground for everyone seeking vertical fun on steep faces or
via ferratas. In winter, Fieberbrunn is considered the freeride hotspot in the region.

Kitzbühel Tourism (Kitzbühel, Aurach, Jochberg)
In summer, a wide variety of options are available, from via ferratas to southern ridge crossings and extensive tours, some with views of
the “Gamsstadt.” Thanks to the excellent lift infrastructure, Kitzbühel is
also a paradise for off-piste skiers in winter, and the southern mountains offer beautiful touring possibilities.

Wilder Kaiser (Ellmau, Going, Schefau, Söll)
The Wilder Kaiser is a famous eldorado for climbers with endless alternatives, from via ferratas to
the most extreme climbing routes in the world. In winter, you can plan more demanding ski tours here or prepare for a winter expedition.

Kaiserwinkl (Kössen, Walchsee, Schwendt, Rettenschöss)
In the warm season, a refreshing dip in Lake Walchsee is the perfect way to cool off after a via ferrata with breathtaking views.
In winter, the area between the Kaiser Mountains and the Chiemgau Alps is a perfect region for snowshoe tours.
