In addition to the mountains of the world, the Western and Eastern Alps, we love spending time in our “local mountains.” These can be explained using three terms:
The Kitzbühel Alps were given the name “Grass Mountains” because of their alpine pastures and meadows that reach right up to the summits. Their gentle mountain shapes provide the ideal setting for extensive, easy hikes and bike tours in summer. In winter, the mountains around the world-famous Hahnenkamm offer the perfect backdrop for ski and snowshoe tours. Thanks to the excellent lift infrastructure, they are also a paradise for off-piste skiers.
On the northern edge of the Alps, the “Stone Mountains” offer a rugged contrast that invites you to go climbing. From the famous climbing dorado of the Wilder Kaiser and the Steinplatte to the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge, these limestone mountains provide the ideal playground for everyone seeking vertical fun on steep faces or via ferratas.
To the south of the Kitzbühel Alps are the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern, known as the “Snow Mountains,” as this part of the main Alpine ridge is called. The most famous of these, the Großglockner and the Großvenediger, can be reached from Kitzbühel as comfortable two-day tours.
